Excalibur goo kit question!

I did a goo kit on one of my Excalibur lamps and after everything was done I put it on the base and all the goo rised to the top with zero movement! So I thought maybe I added too much surf? So I dumped and started over... No change. I have dump and started over like 7 times and every time it just rises to the top. Now during one of these start over points, I did decide to add a little more goo because it looked like I was a bit short and that rises too but will go down and up... 

Right now I don't even have the surf in the bottle. I swirled it around in the bottle and sat it aside just to see what would happen without it. So there absolutely no surf other than what I shook around the bottle and coils!

Is the surf mixed in the goo?

Should I rinse the hard block of goo? I haven't done that.

A little back story on this lamp... I bought this lamp about a year ago. Something strange about this lamps original contents that I've never encountered with any of my other lamps was all the goo would go to the top and come down and back up (Basically opposite of what a normal lamp does, going up and back down)

So this lamp seems to doing something similar... 

Oh and I have tried turning down the heat with the dimmer... That's not the problem.

I know all this sounds strange! So the hell is going on!

The first picture is what was happening before I added more goo...

The second is how the lamp is now.

The blob floats at the top even when the lamp is off.

Is this a bad bottle of goo or surf?

There's no way there's too much surf... I don't even have the surf in the bottle in the second picture. 

Everytime I start over and put it back on the base, before the goo even melts it all floats to the top. 

The coils look like they are in great shape. 

I don't know what I can do about this with MT, I purchased a large amount of this goo around November. This was the first time I opened this bottle. 

I have the lamp turned back off and every is back to the top.

Could be a couple of things - first - you mentioned doing the process over 6 times which may have deluded some of the chemicals in the wax each time you heated the the liquid and poured out to restart the process over again. Each time you do this it will have some effect on the wax.  I'm also guessing that it may be a bad batch since I've had magma goo for years and every time I use it it still works fine.  No real expiration as to when one should use it.  It's pretty reliable.  Have you contacted the seller to discuss?  They may be willing to send you new kit.

Well it started out not moving at all. It just stayed at the top and never even blobbed until I added more goo. I have emailed them... But haven't heard back yet . I'll try to call tomorrow. 

This is the lamp now off and completely hardened.

I've never seen anything like this!

Are you using distilled water? The minerals in tap water will make the wax more buoyant.

Yes, it is distilled.

When adding goo, it has the tendency to create microbubbles that make it float

2 options

Option 1

Run it overnight with a towel wrapped around it so it overheats and everything floats

this will allow the bubbles to escape from the overheating

let it cool

turn on and see if the problem persist

Option 2

Drain the water

Add fresh distilled water to @3/4 full

Put it on the stove in a  pot with a water bath 

WATCH IT

when the water starts to boil, turn gas down to simmer

WATCH IT until all the goo floats and becomes clear

Let it sit and cook for @1/2 hr until it is all floating then another 20 min or so-see pic below

DO NOT let the pan run out of water from steaming away

turn off gas, walk away, DO NOT MOVE IT, or go to bed

goo will float to the bottom ON ITS OWN and then add  the remainder of with fresh distilled water

Okay I'll try that. I just turned it back on and it's floating back at the top...

Also when doing option two, do I add any surf at the end and should I remove the coils or leave them in place?

Surf is added at the beginning with few inches of distilled water
Leave coils in

Shake the hell out of it to make sure you coat the entire globe so there is no goo sticking.

THEN add the goo

The add distilled water

You can then cook it then to remove bubbles

If the goo is floating to the top with the lamp off, I'd say 99.9% you have installation bubbles

Just did 2 lamps for a client with same issues

I had read on some goo kit instructions that I was to shake the surf around the bottle/coil then pour it out and set it aside. 

Add goo and let it harden 

Then add the surf and the rest of the distilled water.

I'll let you know how it goes!

I add go, then cook it to get the bubbles out

They usually do not go away on their own and will make it float

But YEsm, those are the basic instructions
