Wow, a Crestworth Traction Engine Lamp - always wanted one of them, you made a real lucky find, congratulations!

As far as I know there were two versions, one with engine parts made of steel, and a newer one with plastic parts.

I would love to know if anyone has ever seen one with original box/packaging. I never have and an example of this packaging must be super mega rare.

They were also sold in the USA for a very short time. Probably not very popular here. They were likely a bigger hit in the 70s in the UK. In England, there's a longstanding tradition of traveling carnivals. The rides are pulled around by a sort of steam-driven tractor (think steamroller minus the roller) called a "traction engine"; when parked, the steam engine's drive can be disconnected from the wheels and used to turn the rides. These are a thing even today. So over there, where the carnivals kept these engines a nostalgic thing, people might want this. In the USA, most people probably had no idea what it was about.

I love mine but my gal has super-sensitive hearing
She can hear above 20k

she can hear ultrasonic motion detectors!!

Thus the wine from mine hurts her ears so I only display it

Claude, you'd best send yours to me for safe-keeping.

Claude - this lamp depends on multiple contacts to pass on the drive traction from the various elements, as you know.

But you shouldn't have any sound, (even with super-sensitive hearing)... it might be that one or more of the contact points might need adjusting very slightly...

If it's the motor, there's an oil produced on your side of the pond called Liquid Bearings that is brilliant on all this kit.

Btw, I swapped the bulb in mine from a 25w pygmy to a 7w version - huge improvement...

Jonas - if you've ever been stuck behind a convoy of Traction Engines on their way to a show (they are allowed on the roads), you might be less understanding - top speed is about 10mph, as I recall... pretty, yes - but pretty annoying too!

I've been meaning to service it, but haven't found the time

I actually have a bottle of liquid bearings oil
