Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi all. I just got this lamp, and it took 3hrs to melt and attempt to flow. However... it doesn't flow at all just sits like a lump. The globe is hot to touch after 3 secs it burns you. Is this a case of new lamp syndrome or is it over heating? I understand the goop when its hot it goes up, then as it cools it drops. But this is simply doing nothing, and its been 5hrs. Thank you.

I would suggest emptying the liquid - place the vessel back on the lamp with the wax inside.  Once the wax has melted fish the inner coil out - clean it up thourpoughly with dish soap and drop it back in.  Let the wax solidify then relpace the liquid and fire it up.  You may also want to try using a light dimmer.  If none of this works the lamp is fried.  It may have been left on far too long and the lamp contents literally boil inside ruining the contents - hence the reason a certian lamp wattage is required for each lamp and not just any bulb.  Lava lamps are only meant to run for a certain amount of time before you must turn them off and so many people are not aware and they end up frying the lamp.  This is a very common issue.
