Oozing Goo - The Lava Lamp Syndicate

Hi guys,

Trying to restore a lamp for a friend and it is doing this (pic). I have been adding epson salt solution to this, but it is sticking to the side. I assume that there is residue that the wax is sticking to and not letting it get hot enough to rise. Any suggestions short of draining out the wax, I'm doing this at work (shhhh),  would be most appreciated. Thanks again!

Nothing to do but start over.  If wax sticking to sides of globe, you have to get globe perfectly clean and then with small amount of distilled water and surf coat the inside of said, clean globe and re- pour wax back into globe.  Sorry. Good luck with project.  Wish I could do that at work, lol! :P

P.S. could not see pic, but I sure do know what sticking wax to the side of the globe looks like.

Thank you for the info! With said coat, do I have to empty that out also, or do I leave it in?

You can leave it in, as you will be very careful not to splash wax up on the sides of the globe.

Thank you. Has anyone ever tried cutting up the wax into small cubes when putting back in?

Remember reading some that have, I have put it back in already melted. You would have to start dropping the wax to the bottom or skewering it and lowering it to bottom but how do you get it off the skewer once your down there?  Think chances for making splashes or touching sides of cleaned "primed" globe would greatly increased this way.  Just my humble opinion.  Good luck with redo though!
