I've read everything I can find on how to deal with lava that gets stuck on the sides so I'm well versed on that but I'm wondering if the lave could be sticking to the sides because it's just old/compromised lava. And if so, is there anything you can add to the lava to help it not stick to the sides? I have a hard time with SURF. Coating the inside of the globe always turns the lamp cloudy and makes the lava flakey. See More

Something Interesting About Me:: I have become obsessed with lava lamps. I love vintage everything, especially lava lamps. My favorite is the Consort. I've yet to find one. I really love tweaking cheap lamps. I get a great sense of accomplishment when I fix a lamp that was not flowing or cloudy!

Where I Live:: Oklahoma City

My First Lava Lamp was:: My first lava lamp was bought on E-bay. It is an aristocrat with a starlight base from the 70's. It no longer has it's original wax but it is still, by far my favorite!

Anyone live in Tennessee, North Georgia or North Carolina?

This is random and has nothing to do with lava, but my family and I are looking to relocate to the above area. I just wondered if anyone had any experience in these places or suggestions. We really want to move to the mountains and are looking for a somewhat mild climate. It's so hot in Oklahoma my lava lamps actually react weird during these summer months, even with air conditioning!

Has anyone ever made a glitter lamp? I think I might branch out and try it, but I'm not sure of any particular ingredients I should use.

Need new coil.

My 52oz. was acting really strange so I started messing with the water solution only to find out the coil had broken into 3 pieces! I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the coil but my goo was bleeding into the water. Very strange-can't imagine why that would all the sudden happen! Does anyone have a suggestion on what coil would work best and where to find them? I'm guessing a hardware store. Is it possible to change the color of lava?

I have three questions. Has anyone had any experience with a Hot Rock lava lamp? It was really cheap and I thought I could revamp it if it didn't flow. It doesn't flow nor does the lava act normal. It has a clear consistency to it. Seems like adding salt and soap is not working. I can't get it to connect to the coil no matter what I do. Anyone have any ideas?

My lava is gooey and will not cycle

I have opened a lava lamp inorder to replace cloudy liquid and transfer the lava to another globe. In doing so, I believe I may have compromised the lava. Could boiling lava hurt it? I let it get to hot and when i checked it the lava was actually boiling. Also, could I have compromised it by adding too much soap? I have put clean water in it and let it cycle several times, hoping this would help the state of my lava but so far I am having no luck with getting it to cycle. I am using cold… Continue

If you do ever switch to another jar, I would go over to not only olive section, but all the really "fancy" condiment and sauce isle, sometimes even the ethnic food section. The spanish food brand "Goya" I saw the other day had a few varieties of bottles (this was at SuperTarget) that looked slimmer than the one I sent you, but possibly too slim for the Mediterranean. Remember they are not just olive bottles, they usually are, but look for pastes, sauces, and marinades. What I recommend is tracing your Med. bottle on a piece of paper like in grade school. And take it with you to the store so you know what size will fit. If it's a little slimmer and wiggles in the base or teeters, you can take strips of aluminum foil and wrap it around the bottle bottom so it securely sits upright. Hope all that helps! I made a lauryl sulfate solution for the tensoactive, at first hand i had the idea that it need more, but the problem grow as i ad more formula, so i make a new one, new ooze, with the half of tensoactive solution, and the sticking grows as a 4cm per hour till reach the top.

The "light bulb" bottle is actually about a foot tall. I have one of the small ones (about 5 inches or so) and I was going to try to make one out of it..but it was just too tiny! This lamp has to be one of my favorites...glad you like it!

White is my favorite as well. We once made a white marble base with white lava and it just looked amazing.
