What else could float inside a lava lamp?

I'm an artist attempting to make a sculpture out of a lava lamp by inserting small sculpted or painted objects inside. I'm hoping someone might know before I take it apart if it's possible to insert small porcelain objects, pieces of acetate, or any other material inside the lamp that might float without just sinking to the bottom, floating to the top, or melting? Thanks for your response.

My lava is gooey and will not cycle

I have opened a lava lamp inorder to replace cloudy liquid and transfer the lava to another globe. In doing so, I believe I may have compromised the lava. Could boiling lava hurt it? I let it get to hot and when i checked it the lava was actually boiling. Also, could I have compromised it by adding too much soap? I have put clean water in it and let it cycle several times, hoping this would help the state of my lava but so far I am having no luck with getting it to cycle. I am using cold… Continue

A Little Recognition for the Donors

Since we switched over to the social network version of Oozing Goo, I have placed a "donate" button on the site to help offset the hosting costs associated with the new setup. I'm happy to say that we've recieved 8 total donations in 8 months, ranging from $10.00 to $50.00. The donations were made by 6 members so far. Thanks guys! As a little recognition for their generosity, I have started an…

My first Lava project!!!

Lucy bought a Green / Clear jet as one of our first lamps and we knew that there was something not right with the wax. So we ended up replacing it.

After getting to know a few of the wonderful people on this site, and speaking to DJTrevrok almost every day for god knows how long, lol. We ended up swapping bottles, mine were for this project and to be honest it didnt matter if I messed it up as it was just for a trial.

This is the First pic, just to show the Badness of the… Continue

COLLECTING COLOR

I don't collect lamps I collect the moving color lava globes that go in lamp bases. The majority of my over 50 lamps are 32oz Lava Lite Midnights simply because at night the base and cap fade into the background and the moving colors take center stage. 9 of my lamps have silver bases to cluster around the silver base Grande.

When I started my moving color collection 2/2008 my original plan was to acquire 25 midnight clear/colored wax lamps to put in black bookcases making The Wall o… Continue

Painting with lava lamps and a camera

I officially now have a giant pile of 32z midnights in lotso colors and am able to specifically position and heat lamps to layer, and blend colors with lava movement on a scale with real depth. Previously I was just lumping lamps together and taking opportunity pics.

I'm setting the lamps up then heating them until they spike and turning them off. I can easily move the globes without causing cloudiness and have an easy to see palette of colors to consider when positioning the lamps… Continue

Flaky wax

On the third of April I acquired a vintage yellow/orange Carlisle from a vintage shop in my town (see my photos)-- now I can say officially that I have a collection of lamps!

My 25 watt that came with my first lamp, a new Lava brand from Target, wasn't hot enough, and the wax half-way melted into these weird positions and I was worried that it had semi-petrified. But I bought a 40 watt bulb and all is right with the world. It chugs away happily all day (it just sent up its first… Continue

Meditation Lamp Recreation

I have been curious about the Meditation Lamps pictured in the Lava World gallery below. This is the only picture I have seen and I do not know of anyone who has one. If you do, or know someone who does, please post pictures.

I filled a Consort Globe with white lava and clear fluid. I blew the ad up till it matched the actual size of the Consort Globe. This gave me an idea of how big to make the Cross and where to position it on the globe. I made the Cross in Photoshop and printed it on a… Continue

Do We Want Widgets?

I've had a few people ask for a feature to find out who's online at the moment. The only way to do it is to scroll through the members list and look, but this takes time. So I just loaded that little box on the right, appropriately called "Who's Online". Pretty cool, huh? You ask, and I shall deliver - if the stars align and I know how to... ;-)

There's another widget out there called chat that I can install. My only hesitation is that widgets slow down the loading of our Main page.…

Bad Website: Lavacreations.com

Don't be had! I was so excited to find a website that I thought sold these retired models, midnights, silverstreaks, and giants (yes giants!) But NOOOO. The site is no good. I tried to purchase three lamps, fortunately my money was refunded without hassel, but seeing that the site is still up, we dont want to see anyone else get taken or be mistaken. I should have been alarmed when it didnt charge anything for shipping, it just goes right to paypal, but the stars in my eyes from these rare…

So Long, Farewell

Today I could not stand it any longer, I had to do it. I sent back my 52 oz. yellow lava clear liquid on a blue base. :(

As I was using it, it got worse and worse to the point it got so cloudy that I could not see through it anymore. The pictures look better than the actual thing.

Pics are below.…

New Chrome Lava Lamps - Under Our Radar

chrome lava lamp bases

So why didn't anyone tell us that LavaWorld was about to come out with a new line of chrome lava lamps? As Dr.WHAT? pointed out, the release of the new line somehow slipped under our collective radar. How'd 'dat happen?!? Unlike other new product releases by LW, this time there was no press release which seems particulraly strange considering these lamps are among the…
